Elections 2023: SYRIZA Betting Constituencies

Looking at the electoral map of May 21, it is enough to see what a difficult task they face in Kumundura. reinforced analogue urns approaching, and in many cases there will still be a redistribution of seats. TO SYRIZA they want to recover and see that there is room to improve on poor results. Now they will be addressed to a specific audience, focusing on the popular segments of society, the unemployed and the underpaid. Many themed events are expected, focusing on more traditional areas, such as Western sector of Athens. It is this region that has always been the “stronghold” of the party, which in 2019 reached 38.6%. The fall of 16 points was a ringing “bell” of how the party should move in the remaining 30 days.

The same picture in Western Attica, where SYRIZA collapsed, as well as in Piraeus II, where the strength of the party fell by 18%, losing four municipalities. Areas such as Keratsini-Drapetsona, Korydallos, Nikaya and Perama passed into the blue hands, and this cost Kumundur dearly. In general, in all the former strong regions of the party (Chania, Rethymno, Lassifi, Heraklion, Achaia, Western Athens, Second Piraeus, Western Attica, Arta and Xanthi) want to “correct” the performance of the previous Sunday. Either “repatriate” the voters or reduce the abstentions.

Fight on two fronts

Komunduru will turn his attention to areas dominated by the popular strata on the way to new elections.

In the next period, SYRIZA is forced to fight on two fronts. To the New Democracy, but also to PASOK, which now feels its “breath”. There are several regions where the next election fight will be a derby with Harilau Trikoupi. There they will try to widen the gap. In Heraklion, SYRIZA received 22.93% and PASOK 21.81%. Accordingly, in the Dodecanese SYRIZA 14.89% – PASOK 13.42%, in Lesbos SYRIZA 15.91% – PASOK 14.53%, in Halkidiki SYRIZA 15.27% – PASOK 14.05%, in Argolid SYRIZA 17.75 % – PASOK 15.60%. %, in Arcadia SYRIZA 19.14% – PASOK 17.84%.

Macedonia will not be left out either, as New Democracy could have taken the lead, but it had leaks from the right. The positive moment in this pre-election period is that Greece will be “plowed” by top managers who have no obligation to be in their regions because of the list.

The areas where the party of Nikos Androulakis came in second, leaving SYRIZA in third place, will also become a gamble. In Lassithi, PASOK scored 21.47% against 17.76% for SYRIZA. Accordingly, it surpassed SYRIZA in Chios (19.30% – 12.36%), Kilkis (17.34% – 13.63%), Drama (16.93% – 13.89%), Rethymno (21.47%) % – 21.03%), Laconia (15.22% – 13.79%). A clear hegemony in the centre-left area is non-negotiable for the official opposition, based on the plans already underway.
