Elections: All against all in the last meters of the race

Unanswered, at the start of election week, the question of whether the government will be able to appear in the elections next Sundaywith the prospect of a new appeal to polls intensifying after the latest positions of political leaders.

A simple analogy makes the prospect of self-sufficiency extremely unlikely for either side. At the same time, a few days before the elections, potential scenarios of cooperation between governments “burn out” either because in some cases the numbers do not come out, or because potential partners do not show such an attitude.

Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, in all his public statements of the previous days, he advocates the formation of an independent government. In Sunday’s interview, he took that one step further by breaking bridges with PASOK. “I don’t believe that after the vote on May 21 there is any possibility for any cooperation with PASOK, even if numerically it can lead to the government getting a vote of confidence,” he said.

In fact, he expressed the opinion that the cooperation government of N.D. with PASOK, the most likely partner, based on the numbers, would be a government that would not serve the interests of the country at the moment, since, according to him, “we must step on the gas”, meaning that speed and agility in decision-making it is required to leave the country before working conditions, and a cooperation government will not serve this purpose. In fact, Mr. Mitsotakis clarified that “I have nothing to discuss with PASOK Mr. Androulakis, he brought PASOK closer to SYRIZA.” Thus, he gave the first sample of writing conditions on which discussions will take place the day after the election, which do not favor the prospect of cooperation.

And from PASOK, because the tones are high, beyond the limits set by the firm and insistent position of Mr. Nikos Androulakis “not Mitsotakis or Tsipras for the post of prime minister.” Harilaou Trikoupis’ response to the Prime Minister’s remarks came in a harsh tone and spoke of “a strong mandate to Nikos Androulakis to make PASOK-Movement for Change a protagonist and not a convenient partner.” On these terms, Mr. Mitsotakis yesterday demanded from the central polling booth N.D. in the Constitution “resolutely enter the last hundred” and “do not calm down.” We know we’re going to be winners, but we want to be winners by a wide margin.”

SYRIZA President Alexis Tsipras, spoke of “a 7-day battle for the final victory”, while he came from Agrinion confident that “changes are coming next Sunday. On the 21st we win, and on the 22nd we form a government of progressive cooperation.” Government cooperation with whom? Mr. Tsipras personally approached Mr. Androulakis as PASOK is an “essential partner” in any government, according to the survey. “How can equal distances be left the next day?” the PASOK president was asked in an attempt to pressure Harilaou Trikoupi to take the stand. A statement by Harilaou Trikoupis referring to those “who have proven to be the gold sponsor of Kyriakos Mitsotakis with the shenanigans they trade in ‘local currency’ and tolerance for ‘Dimitres'” shows that PASOK, days before the election, is still resists persistent flirting from Komunduru.

Janis Varoufakis also reacted negatively to the cooperation government’s scenario., who stated that “pre-election dialogue needs the comfort of the times. After May 21, we will have a week of cockfighting, and then the new election season will immediately begin. Unfortunately, the window of serious political dialogue that we have been asking for for two years now has been closed at the initiative of Mr. Tsipras, Mr. Androulakis and Mr. Koutsoubas. So, unfortunately, there are no conditions for doing what we have an obligation to citizens if it is joint governance.”

And, of course, from the side of the KKE it is repeated in all tones that the party has no prospect of entering the coalition government, just as there are no scenarios of tolerant voting that are heard from time to time.
