The Prime Minister expressed his confidence that the Greek people will again trust the New Democracy by appreciating its work. Kyriakos Mitsotakis speaking at a citizens’ meeting in Lixouri.
“The other alternative does not seem convincing”
In his statement, the Prime Minister raised “the ballot box dilemma“. In particular, he said that it concerns “if we want stability, certainty, to be able to face the future with confidence, or if we want to embark on adventures and experiments. Because today I see that there is only one clear proposal for governance: The New Democracy is strong and wins the election on May 21st.»
“No other alternative seems convincing“, – said after that the prime minister. “We have a proposal, we are submitting it to the court of the Greek people. We ask you to evaluate our project and design. I am sure that the Greek people will trust us again,” added Mr. Mitsotakis.
The Prime Minister tried to give a brief overview of the government’s work, highlighting the government’s efforts to overcome the crises it has faced, and also mentioned the projects carried out in the local community.
“Citizens remember what Mr. Tsipras said in the past and what he ended up doing”
Mr. Mitsotakis emphasized the main goal of improving the health of the population and developing the economy, and he was critical of the SYRIZA program:
“At the moment I am not interested in any confrontation with our party rivals. Everyone is judged. Mr. Tsipras presented his program yesterday. I think he deserves the same credit as everything he has done in the past.. Citizens remember very well what he said in the past and what he ended up doing,” said Mr. Mitsotakis, adding:
“We want to be judged regardless of what we have done in these four years and what we want to do in the next four years.“.
Referring to the government’s public health project, the prime minister spoke about the Argostoli Hospital, which already has new emergency departments, which he said are exemplary.
“Why am I saying this? Because, you see, we are committed to investing in public health in general. My main commitment is that the next four years will be four years of significant recovery. YOU. And that, of course, means that you must have access to quality health care wherever you are, depending on the structures we have that we must support. And in a very ambitious program that includes many more sets, we will hire 10,000 nurses and doctors over the next four years for the needs of the National Health System. With additional resources for our hospitals, for medical centers. What has already been done in Argostoli, the modernization of emergency departments, i.e. the first point of contact between a citizen and a hospital, will be done in 80 hospitals of the country, and 156 medical centers will be able to be completely renovated,” Mr. Mitsotakis emphasized.
“Three Commitments Fulfilled”
He touched upon the problems created by the crisis and emphasized that “whenever the community needed support, we were there.”
He referred to reimbursable advances given to businesses during the pandemic and noted:
“You had to get support because if you didn’t get support, stores would be closed, workers would be out of work, and we wouldn’t be able to achieve the growth we’ve achieved today.”
The Prime Minister also emphasized that our country is one of the main actors in Europe in terms of development and said that “our economy is doing well and will improve, and the more our economy is doing and will improve, the more money will be for education. , for health, for welfare, for the support of people with disabilities”.
“We have implemented our election program, despite the big and difficult things that have happened to us. When I asked for your trust in 2019, I promised three very simple things. I told you that I want to reduce taxes and contributions, and yes, I have reduced taxes and contributions for every Greek woman and for every Greek man. You all know this better than me. I told you that I want to create jobs, put the country on a path of dynamic growth and attract investment.
Only in Kefalonia – pay attention, I saw the figures – investments of 150 million are planned. Most in the tourism sector, but not only. And the number of arrivals last year was 10% higher than in 2019, and this year is predicted to be even better. This is income for the entire island and for general support of the island’s economy. Not only for tourism, for the primary sector, for cultural events. Because that is how we perceive regional development. So, I fulfilled this obligation.
My third commitment was that I want to have a strong and secure country. A country that will defend its borders. We effectively defended the borders of the Motherland. Our homeland has ceased to be an “open vineyard”. We, I believe, adequately represented the country abroad, we demanded European resources, which in the coming years will be able to change a lot. A compensation fund of 31 billion euros, I personally stipulated them. It didn’t take 17 hours, it took us 5 days, but I provided the country with 31 billion euros, and this money is everywhere,” said Mr. Mitsotakis.
