Nikos Christodoulidis from the Delphi Forum: “Rejection of the solution of the Cyprus problem is not an option”

“For us not solving the Cyprus problem is not an option“, – said the President of the Republic of Cyprus, Nikos Christodoulides from 8th Delphi Economic Forum.

“The continuation of the problem is disastrous for the Cypriot people. We will do our best to create data that will lead to new discussions,” he stressed in an interview with Nikos Hatzinikolaou.

“In this context, we are approaching new efforts to resume negotiations. We are ready to discuss a positive agenda for Turkey. With the leading role of the EU, always within the framework of the UN, the goal of resolving the Cyprus problem is achievable,” the President of Cyprus added.

Answering a question about the electoral struggle in Greece and Turkey, N. Christodoulidis expressed hope “that there will be stability in both Greece and Turkey, that there will be stable governments.”

From the stage of the 8th Delphi Economic Forum, the President of Cyprus clarified that his government’s goal is to link Euro-Turkish relations with the resumption of dialogue on the Cyprus issue, and to this end, he requested the appointment of a politician from the EU to take the reins of this effort.

“We do not want the citizens of Cyprus to be second-class citizens, as they are today, as they are deprived of basic human rights,” he said.

Speaking about the energy reserves of South-Eastern Europe, Nikos Christodoulidis said: “We expect more support from the EU to use the energy potential of the region, which, according to experts, can cover 15-16% of Europe’s needs in the next 25 years. .”
