The network of new disease prevention activities launched by the government and its link to primary health care was presented at a meeting with the Prime Minister. Kyriakos Mitsotakisin Maxim’s palace.
According to APE-MPE, actions include expanding preventive screenings to diagnose various types of cancer at a stage that will dramatically increase the chance of a cure, targeted actions to prevent obesity in children and adults, tests for early detection of cardiovascular diseases, a dental care program for children between the ages of 6 and 12 and actions to de-stigmatize the period for girls with a parallel free distribution of products to be tested in 200 schools in Athens and Thessaloniki.
“At the level of prevention, and also in the big reform that we have done in primary health care with a personal physician, I believe that we have laid the foundations for real revolution in an area of politics that in the past has never received the proper attention of the state. We have received significant resources to carry out these activities, both from the Recovery Fund and from the NSRF.
And let me emphasize the importance of preventive, screening tests. The “Fofi Gennimata” program, which has already been accepted by several women. This is a real innovation, because for the first time the state itself comes and approaches women from 50 to 69 years old and actually encourages them, makes it easier for them to get preventive mammograms. More than 120,000 women have already used this tool,” the Prime Minister said.
“Of course, this program is not limited to these preventive examinations. There are also a number of preventive tests related to cervical cancer, colon cancer, detection of lung cancer in heavy smokers, as well as major preventive packages related to heart and cardiovascular diseases, which are responsible for a significant number of deaths and especially premature death. Kyriakos Mitsotakis added.
“So, let’s sum up and sum up the results for the next four years. Apart from the obviously important interventions that we need to carry out in our hospitals, it is important to explain that our health policy is not limited to hospitals. In my opinion, the historical mistake for decades has been that our entire perception of health has been centered on the hospital.. It is clear that hospitals play a very important role in our care and health policy. But this is not the only support. And that’s why we start from the beginning.
And the beginning is what we can do ourselves to ensure a better life expectancy and a better quality of life,” the Prime Minister said.
The government’s new health initiatives were presented by Minister Thanos Plevris, Secretary General of Public Health Irini Agapidakis and Secretary General of Primary Health Care Marios Themistocleous.
