Mitsotakis of Orestiada: No allowances for national security issues – will SYRIZA continue the fence or tear it down?

Security is a prerequisite for development. The government will not make any concessions on national security issues, and if it fails to secure European funds, it will complete the fence along the entire length of the Greek-Turkish border on Evros with national funds, Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis said during his speech. residents of Orestiada and urged SYRIZA and personally Mr. Tsipras to answer clearly: “Will he continue the fence project or stop it?” Will he break the fence we’ve already built?

“I want to express my regret that today in Greece there are political forces that oppose this project, and we are approaching to introduce an amendment and a resolution to the European Parliament so that this technical embankment, the fence, is not funded. European funds,” the prime minister said and continued:

“To put it simply, let Europe not pay for the project, let all of you Greek taxpayers pay for it. This is what Mr. Papadimoulis is asking us about, and SYRIZA is asking about this today. And I want you to listen to this very carefully, because the next election will be judged by deeds and words, deeds and statements. This is where we all need to speak clearly and stop fishing in troubled waters. And finally, the opposition must also make a clear position: will it continue with the fence project or stop it? Will he break the fence we have already built, returning to the logic of open borders, or will he preserve the legacy of a safe Greece that defends its borders, a safe Evros? There is no place for morons here.”

Mr. Mitsotakis said he was confident that if a SYRIZA government was elected, the border protection policy would not continue.

At the same time, he recalled the hybrid attack that Greece received from Turkey on the Evros border 3 years ago, and stressed that the government successfully dealt with it.

The prime minister expressed confidence that New Democracy would win on the evening of May 21, because, in his words, “there is no alternative proposal from the government.”

The election dilemma, he stressed, is “stability and progress or adventures.”

He also referred to the right-wingers of the New Democracy talking about patriotism, and, addressing the inhabitants of Orestiada, noted: “To all those who speak of so-called patriotism in words, answer them who were real patriots in deeds, not in words.” . and that a stable and secure Greece is identified with our great faction, the New Republic.”

Mr. Mitsotakis said that “our great victory starts from here, from northern Evros, from Orestiada”, and explained why he considers this area magical, so he starts his election campaigns from northern Evros, either for internal parties, or for national elections.

He also noted the fact that he himself will be a candidate for deputy from the prefecture of Evros in the May 21 elections.

The Prime Minister, who was accompanied by Deputy Minister of Macedonia and Thrace Stavros Kalafatis, was welcomed in Orestiada by MPs Thassos Dimoshakis, Stavros Keletsis, Christos Dermentzopoulos, Regional Governor of East Macedonia and Thrace Christos Methios, Deputy Regional Governor Evros Dimitris. Petrovich and the mayor of Orestiada Vassilis Mavridis. Mr. Mitsotakis walked along the central square and talked to the townspeople.
