Annual activity report Office for the Protection of Personal Data, for 2021, presented to the President of Parliament, Kon. Tasula, President of Power, Con. Menudakos.

K. Menudakos noted that “among its many activities, the Office has issued a number of decisions, opinions and guidelines on important issues, such as distance learning, remote work, processing of personal data in the context of declaring the results of self-diagnostic control, the use of an electronic application on mobile devices, through which is carried out by the EU Covid-19 digital certificate verification. etc.”

As mentioned in the relevant parliamentary statement, Mr. Menoudakos added that “Throughout the pandemic, during which measures related to the processing of personal data and the restriction of individual rights were introduced, the Office, despite years of problems of understaffing and lack of sufficient resources, in fulfilled to the greatest extent possible the duties and tasks conferred on him by the European Regulation and national law 4624/2019.”

Regarding the appeals and complaints received by the Authority and their processing, K. Menoudacos stated that “in 2021, the number of cases received reached 1160, an increase of about 19% compared to 2020 (973), while 811 cases, indicating an increase of approximately 16% over the previous year (700). In addition, there was an almost fivefold increase in fines in 2021 after a total of €414,000 was imposed.”

The Speaker of Parliament thanked the Chairman of the Office for the information provided and assured him that he would immediately forward the report to the Committee on Institutions and Transparency for study and discussion.
