Mitsotakis: Best excuse for Tempe victims is to make sure it doesn’t happen again

“Together we will move forward, despite the difficulties, to change Greece,” the Prime Minister emphasized. Kyriakos Mitsotakis at a gathering of citizens in Marusya.

“I know that the atmosphere in Greek society has been very difficult in recent weeks. And I know that we are all saddened, outraged, outraged by this tragic accident that claimed the lives of 57 of our fellow citizens, including many young children. And I know very well, my friends, that the best justification for sacrificing these children is to ensure that what happened at Tempe will never happen again in our country.“, the Prime Minister stressed.

“Our mission is to correct all the wrong texts about Greece of the past”

And he continued: “This is a mission that we must complete. Fix all the bad lyrics about a Greece that came from the past, about a Greece that hurts us, about a Greece that doesn’t express us, about a Greece that doesn’t deserve a new generation.”

Mr Mitsotakis added that since 2019 he has received a strong mandate from Greece, which hurts us, to change it.

“And today I will walk this path with even more strength and even more confidence. Since we have proven that New Democracy this is the real power of change and modernization of this place. And as we get closer to the national elections, we will have the opportunity to take stock and remember where Greece was in 2019 and where Greece is today,” he said.

Mr Mitsotakis said that in 2019 he led a country that was at the tail of growth in Europe and is now the second fastest growing country in the European Union.

He also recalled that unemployment in 2019 was at the level of 17%, today it is 11% and is declining.

“Let us remember that we have taken on an overburdened society, a broken middle class, and we have fulfilled our obligations and reduced taxes and contributions for all Greek women and for all Greeks.

We remind young men and women in the private sector that when we started, the minimum wage was 650 euros, and today it is 780 euros,” he added.

And he added: And we know we have no illusions that many of our fellow citizens are making ends meet and that wages in our country are still low. But we know what we must do to improve them and increase the income of every Greek woman and every Greek man.”

The Prime Minister also stated that the modernization of the state is a reality from which he will not deviate.

“What were your contacts with the state before we introduced gov.gr, which made everyone’s life better. How you, unemployed, waited two years for a pension, and now you receive a pension for two months. And of course, just as in 2019 Greece was a country whose opinion was not considered in Europe, so today Greece is a self-confident country that Europe hears about. It is a safe country, it is a country with reinforced Armed Forces. Yesterday the twelfth Rafale landed in Tanagra. This is a country with armored borders, this is a country that knows where it is going and where it should go,” he stressed.

“Government’s work is not over”

Kyriakos Mitsotakis said the government’s work is not over and that it is constantly fighting the pathogens that have come in since yesterday that “we must fight to really put the country on the path of progressive modernization and genuine patriotism.”

Mr. Mitsotakis noted that what has been achieved can very easily be reversed if the Greek people make decisions in the next elections that do not lead to a stable government.

“We will approach this electoral process with humility and self-confidence, courageously admitting our mistakes. I did this from the very beginning and said that a mistake only becomes a mistake when it is repeated. He who does nothing is infallible. And we have done a lot. We boldly admit our mistakes. We boldly take on the responsibilities entrusted to us. We will look citizens in the eye and present them with our vision of a better and stronger Greece. A vision where I want every Greek woman and every Greek man – and especially the new generation – to be able to see themselves as the protagonists. For them we fight, for them we will continue to fight. And we will continue to talk about the future of our country as we imagine it. And this battle is an existential battle for the future of the country,” he said.

The Prime Minister stressed that “we have achieved a lot, we can achieve much more”, that “we will learn from our mistakes and move forward, but there is only one way.”

He said on this occasion that the path to the homeland, the path of a strong and secure Greece, the path of Greece, which will eventually acquire in all its aspects a state that will protect its citizens, can only be guaranteed by the New Democracy. to him.

“Honest self-criticism, not destruction of our work”

“I must tell you that especially today, when the climate in society is still difficult – and it should be so – your presence, your smile, your enthusiasm gives me and gives us even more strength to continue The Match in it. I have no doubt that when the Greek people calmly make their choice and come to the ballot box with confidence and common sense, they will once again trust our great party, the New Democracy, to carry out this difficult task that we have begun,” he added.

In conclusion, he asked everyone to come to this pre-election period, which has actually already begun, with the necessary modesty and self-confidence.

“Let’s engage in honest self-criticism where necessary, but we will not negate the important work we have done over these four years. And I personally guarantee you that this fight that I started in 2019 to change this country and fundamentally change it, I will continue and complete it. Let’s change Greece together, make it the Greece we all dream of. Best wishes. All the best to you and all the best,” he said.
