Dimitris Papagelopoulos: he was sentenced to a fine of 10,000 euros

Former minister sentenced to €10,000 fine Dimitris Papagelopoulosbecause the Special Court had previously found him guilty by a majority of two breaches of duty.

The ex-minister was sentenced by a majority after the Special Court recognized two extenuating circumstances: a former honest life and good behavior after the act.

District Attorney Olga Smirli previously offered the court a fine of one thousand euros for Dimitris Papagelopoulos.

The monetary fine against the former minister was imposed after the recognition of extenuating circumstances, as provided by law. Of course, the lenient sentence was taken into account in addition to mitigating circumstances and the fact that Dimitris Papagelopoulos was convicted of two breaches of duty, but he was acquitted on other complaints filed against him by prosecutors, including an appeal by prosecutor Georgia Zatani in the case of businessman Andreas Vgenopoulos and former head of the Economic Prosecutor’s Office Univ. Afanasiou for a number of other cases.

In particular, the Special Court found the former minister guilty of two violations of official duties. One concerned prosecutor Eleni Raikou’s complaint that he had pressured her to send case files with politicians without evidence to parliament in the Novartis case, and another complaint by prosecutor Panagiotis Athanasiou that he agreed to intervene in the Novartis case. former head of Piraeus Bank Michalis Schall.

The former minister was convicted by a majority vote, while he was unanimously found not guilty on charges of moral complicity in abuse of power, an offense related to the inaction of prosecutor Eleni Tulupaki, who was acquitted.

The prosecutor’s acquittal related to charges of abuse of power and was received by a majority vote. The accusation against her was due to her failure to send additional KINAL deputies drug billing reports to Parliament that concerned former ministers of the SYRIZA-ANEL Pan government. Kurumpli and Andreas Xanthou.

Prosecutor Eleni Tulupaki said after the acquittal that “today is a day of justice,” and her lawyers expressed their satisfaction with the acquittal.

Papagelopoulos: allegations are made up

After the conviction and imposition of a fine, Dimitris Papagelopoulos declared.

“For five whole years they tried to destroy me and put me in jail to wash away the huge scandal with Novartis. They failed. Novartis turned out to be the biggest scandal in the Greek state, and I was convicted in two ridiculous, non-existent, fabricated and unrelated to the Novartis scandal cases of wrongdoing, with a slim majority only in the form of a fine.

I feel deeply offended that some people demanded to scrape my tomari, it was so cheaply priced. The Greek people have understood and continue to mourn. It’s for now.”

Supporters of Dimitris Papagelopoulos state in their statement:

“Today’s decision of the special court comes to finally and irrevocably bury the flimsy indictment against our client, an indictment drawn up by a group of scribblers bothering with verification.

The court’s decision imposed only a monetary penalty, demeaning any contempt for the two cases in which our leader was found guilty by a marginal majority.

He was unanimously found not guilty on charges of moral complicity in the felony of abuse of power, he was found not guilty of four of the six total counts of one misdemeanor, two of which he was found guilty of, two were found extenuating circumstances, and in the end only a monetary fine was imposed.
