He was also found guilty on the complaints of the prosecutor Pan. Athanasiou that he was under pressure in the case of the former head of Piraeus Bank, Michalis Sala.

He was found not guilty by a majority vote following complaints from Georgia Attorney Tzatani that he interfered in the case of businessman Andreas Vgenopoulos, as well as complaints from Attorney Pan. Athanasiou in the cases of Giannis Alafouzos and businessman Andreas Vgenopoulos, as well as in the case of Neon journalist Giorgos Papachristou.

The court acquitted prosecutor Eleni Tulupaki for abuse of power and also acquitted Dimitris Papagelopoulos for moral complicity in it.

The proposal of the prosecutor of the special court, Olga Smyrlis, was an excuse for the former minister, as well as for the prosecutor, Eleni Tulupaki.

The defendant minister faced allegations of dereliction of duty following prosecutors’ complaints that he interfered with their work, as well as an abuse of power charge as a moral offender by Eleni Tulupaki for not submitting to Parliament a report by KINAL deputies against two ministers for SYRIZA – ANEL on drug pricing.

In particular, Dimitris Papagelopoulos served for a long time as Deputy Minister of Justice in the governments of SYRIZA – ANEL and was tried on the complaints of three prosecutors that, as a minister, he interfered in their work and in specific cases, declaring specific manipulations.

The former head of the Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office, Eleni Raikou, filed complaints against him with Parliament and the Ministry of Justice. In particular, Ms. Raikou accused Mr. Papagelopoulou of interfering in the investigation into the illegal activities of the Novartis company in order to unsubstantiate the exposure of political figures.

Honorary Attorney of Appeal Georgia Tsatani also accused him of pressuring her in connection with certain manipulations in the investigation of the case of the deceased businessman Andreas Vgenopoulos, and the former head of the Economic Prosecutor’s Office Panagiotis Athanasiou also complained about interference in the name of Dimitris Papagelopoulos in a number of cases.

In particular, Mr. Athanasiou condemned Dimitris Papagelopoulos for interfering with the affairs of businessman Andreas Vgenopoulos in the case of a tax audit of the owner of the TV channel SKAI before the competition for television licenses in order to prevent him from participating, but also for Neos journalist Giorgos Papachristos, that he demanded charge him without evidence because he criticized the then government in his writings.

Also, Mr. Athanasiou filed a complaint in the case of the former head of Piraeus Bank, Michalis Sala.

In addition to the interference charges, Dimitris Papagelopoulos was also tried for abuse of power, a felony, as the moral culprit of prosecutor Eleni Tulupaki, who was the head of the anti-corruption prosecution office and was accused of not sending KINAL MPs to Parliament for further billing reports for drugs against two former ministers of the SYRIZA government – ANEL, Panagiotis Kurumplis and Andreas Xanthus.

The process in the Special Court began in mid-September last year and lasted six months. The Areopagite Vassiliki Iliopoulou and the prosecutor Olga Smyrli, who was also the accuser in the trial of the former Minister Nikos Pappus, who was unanimously sentenced to two years in prison with a three-year suspension of execution, were presiding over the trial, while the prosecutor’s proposal for him was acquittal.
