SYRIZA announcement
Moses Elisaf was a university student and made significant contributions to the fields of health and medicine.
He was elected mayor of Ioannina and thus became the first Jewish mayor in Greece. His vision was to reunite the city with its historical cosmopolitan traditions and shape it in contemporary terms of extroversion and dynamism.
The son of Holocaust survivors, he was president of the Israeli community of Janina and also a member of the board of directors of the Central Jewish Council.
Moses Elisaf was an example of an active and progressive citizen who acted within the framework of consensus, away from prejudice and intolerance.
We express our deepest condolences to his family, the Jewish community and the people of Ioannina.
