
Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis met today with a bipartisan delegation from the United States Congress on the sidelines of his work Munich Security Conference.
During the meeting, which is being held for the second year in a row, views were exchanged on international and regional issues, with an emphasis on the consequences Russian invasion of Ukraine and the support that Greece has provided from the very beginning.
According to party sources, the prime minister noted Greece’s continued support for Ukraine, as well as reviewed the growing role of our country as a pillar of geopolitical and energy security and stability in the wider region of Southeast Europe. In addition, immigration and the role of Greece in protecting the external borders of the European Union were discussed.
There was also an exchange of views devastating earthquakes in Turkey and Syria. Kyriakos Mitsotakis highlighted the immediate reaction of Greece and the Greek people by sending rescue teams and collecting humanitarian aid, adding that Greek aid will continue, the same sources said.
Finally, ahead of the fourth round of the strategic dialogue between Greece and the United States, which will be held next Tuesday in Athens, it was emphasized that bilateral relations are at an excellent level.
The congressional delegation led by Senator Lindsey Graham includes Senate Foreign Relations Committee Chairman Robert Menendez, Senate Appropriations Committee Chairman Sheldon Whitehouse, Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Richard J. Durbin, and Senator Chris Van Hollen.
The Prime Minister also held meetings with Serbian President Aleksandar Vusic and Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama.
According to party sources, the leaders exchanged views on developments in the region. Mr. Mitsotakis confirmed that Greece supports the European perspective of the Western Balkans.
