PASOK in full pre-election pace

They rush to fill out a few ballots that have yet to be announced in Harilau Trikoupi. PASOK President Nikos Androulakis will take part today in Brussels in the preliminary congress of Eurosocialists, where Alexis Tsipras will also be present. This will be the first time they will take part in the same event, in the shadow of the violent confrontation sparked by President SYRIZA’s attack on PASOK, focusing on the possibility of post-election cooperation with the ND.

After returning from Brussels, Mr. Androulakis is back on tour. Due to bad weather, his planned Northern Greece tour was postponed. On Saturday, the PASOK President will visit Corinth. In terms of ballots, voting in Arcadia remains a complex equation, where there is still a strong reaction to the possibility of Vangelis Giannakuras’ candidacy. The specific candidacy is reportedly supported by some officials close to former Prime Minister Giorgi Papandreou. However, a number of his choices and moves in the past have caused great discomfort to party officials in the region, who have openly voiced their opposition at the highest levels. They attribute to him an absolute identification with the elections of the regional faction of Petros Tatoulis, even in matters that directly contradict the central directions of PASOK. He is also credited with publicly endorsing the candidacy of his daughter Petros Tatoulis, who was the ND’s Arcadia MP candidate, in the 2015 elections. And his attitude is considered the highest shortcoming when the district authorities of Tatoulis, with the support of the regional faction of AA, elected a supporter of the citizen and the region of the local executive director, whose name was included in the list of witnesses for the defense, Nikos Michaloliakos. According to local PASOK officials, Fofi Gennimat’s leadership disapproved of Mr. Yannakuras’ actions for a number of his decisions.

Reactions continue and, as PASOK officials routinely report, the possibility of Yannakoura’s candidacy has already drawn backlash from other officials who say they do not want to be on the ballot. A wave of reaction is also caused by the decision of Apostolos Spyropoulos, the son of the old party leader Robert Spyropoulos, to resign on the eve of the Central Committee meeting.
