Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis harshly criticized SYRIZA for the official opposition party’s decision not to vote on the bill at the Council of Ministers, speaking of an unacceptable decision that “declares joining the square, populism and unbridled lies.”
“This unacceptable decision not to participate in the parliamentary vote essentially declares that SYRIZA is joining the politics that the square wants. This is a return to populism of slogans and rampant lies instead of rationality and arguments. These are catastrophic experiences that the country does not want to experience under any circumstances,” the Prime Minister said.
“Of course, we warned that SYRIZA would try to muddy the country during the pre-election period. I must, however, say that what I heard surpassed even my own suspicions, a party that should claim a majority in parliament, in fact, abandoning it,” he noted and added: “Of course, I will say it again that he already said that our democracy is parliamentary, and not “pedestrian”, but it seems that some bad habits of the opposition do not change.”
Discussion in the Council of Ministers of an amendment introduced later in parliament, which blocks formations such as the Kasidiari party, was excluded from the agenda.
