Rage in Ankara for M. Pompeo

ISTANBUL – ANSWER. Her violent reaction Ankara caused by the revelations of the former US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo in his new book called “Never Give Up an Inch”about the contacts and incidents he had with her management Turkey. Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu accused Mr. Pompeo of always supporting Greece and that he wrote the book to run for the US presidency and seek support from the Greek lobby. Turkish presidential spokesman Ibrahim Kalin argued that from the time of Mr. Pompeo until today under the Joe Biden administration, the US has supported and continues to support Greece. However, Kalin and Cavusoglu confirm the fact that the former foreign minister threatened to break down the door of the Turkish President’s office! Mr. Tsavusoglu was asked about what is written in Mr. Pompeo’s book, which states that “in the case of Greece and the Greek Cypriots, it was they (Pompeo) who upset the balance of US policy. And since he is a candidate in the upcoming elections, we see that he wrote specific things to get the votes of the Greek lobby. For what is mentioned is false information, exaggerations, and this shows how dishonest and duplicitous they were. With this person, we were forced to work together to develop a relationship.”

Mr. Kalin, in an interview with the Hurriyet newspaper, stated that “(Pompeo’s) book mentions that he is proud of the development of relations with Greece and that no one has supported Greece like this since Kissinger. Well, the US is not neutral among NATO allies. We knew that the United States stood next to Greece and supported it, but he admitted it, and we record it. And today, the Biden administration is not much different in that regard.”

M. Cavusoglu accused him of always supporting Greece and writing a book in view of his candidacy for the US presidency – The “door” incident is confirmed.

The Turkish Foreign Minister referred to the incident that occurred at the meeting between Erdogan and Pence. “Pompeo and I, along with other colleagues, were waiting in another office, we saw that Pompeo was annoyed that the meeting was dragging on, and there were requests like “let’s go inside now.” I also told him that one is the President and the other is the Vice President. When they need us, they will call us. And I told him that from the point of view of courtesy and protocol it would not be good to enter, and warned him.

Mr. Kalin, who attended the meeting, said that “While the meeting lasted and did not end outside, Pompeo had a nervous breakdown. We found out later. It’s weird when your VP is in a meeting and you’re lobbying outside and saying, “I’ll be there.” There was no request from his vice president, he tried to come in and push on the door.” The Turkish Foreign Minister also reacted to what happened during Mr. Pompeo’s visit to the Ecumenical Patriarchate. “He himself told me that he wanted to visit Constantinople, that he would visit the Patriarchate, and that he would like to meet me there. And my answer was clear. I said: “Whoever wants to meet me can come to Ankara and see me, and I will not go to his feet in Istanbul.”

Mr. Cavusoglu accused Mr. Pompeo of “what he writes in the book shows that he supported the coup attempt against Mr. Erdogan.”
