“Fire” Lavrov against Athens – “We were friends, but you obeyed the United States”

“We were friends with the Greeks. We have noted transformations in the leadership of the country. She was forced or she herself agreed to submit to the American check. We drew conclusions about those who so happily supported the aggression against Russia.”

In this tweet, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, through the Russian Embassy in Athens, expressed his displeasure in what is an unprecedented reaction to the position our country is taking in the war in Ukraine.

However, this is not the first attack by the Russian Foreign Ministry on Greece. In March 2022, again through the channels of the Russian embassy in Athens, Maria Zakharova, a representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, attacked Athens: “We drew attention to the unprecedented campaign unfolding in Greece to discredit Russian policy. The top officials of Athens allow themselves harsh accusations against our country and its leadership, literally competing in this with their peers. They hypocritically talk about an “unprovoked attack” on Ukraine, for the first time since World War II, about a “massive invasion”, etc. Maria Zakharova noted at the time.

A representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry launched an attack on Athens in April 2022 over the expulsion of Russian diplomats. “The Greek state, created thanks to the help of Russia, the first head of which was the Russian Foreign Minister, was actually left without diplomatic relations with our country. And this is despite the fact that we share the same faith with the Greeks, inherit the same traditions and have never refused to help our Greek friends,” he said.
