
The plenary session of the Parliament on Monday adopted a declaration in which it supports the full and equal participation of Romanian women in the development, financing and implementation of programs, initiatives and relevant public policies.
The declaration was adopted by 235 votes “for”, 24 “against” and 5 “abstentions”. The adopted text identifies the need to apply a legal framework that promotes equal access to the powers of political representation or to professional duties and leadership positions and supports the elimination of all forms of gender inequality, such as violence against women and girls, early and forced marriage. , the lack of equality in employment and the difference in wages between women and men or unequal participation in decision-making in the private and public spheres, reports the Agerpres agency.
The Parliament welcomes initiatives to establish a random quota of representation in the lists of candidates in local, parliamentary and European parliamentary elections, considering it appropriate to intensify efforts to ensure real parity for relevant positions for women at the local, national and European levels.
At the same time, all political and institutional actors are called upon to promote the significant participation of women in all spheres of activity and at all levels of decision-making.
