President Klaus Iohannis is on a working visit to the Hellenic Republic in Athens on Friday and Saturday, during which he will have meetings with his Greek counterpart Kateryna Sakellaropoulou and Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis.
As reported in the Presidential Administration, the visit to Athens takes place in the context of high-level dialogue and close coordination between Romania and Greece on current issues.
“The meetings of the President of Romania with the President and Prime Minister of Greece aim to consider the potential development of relations between the two countries in the economic and investment spheres, as well as in other sectors such as culture, education, civil protection and tourism. A special emphasis will be made on infrastructural and interconnected projects, including in the energy sector, aimed at reducing dependence on Russian gas and increasing the energy security of the two countries,” the cited source notes.
The security situation caused by Russia’s illegal military aggression against Ukraine will also be considered, as well as the various consequences of this war. Support for the Republic of Moldova, which is extremely vulnerable in the current context, will also be included in the discussion agenda.
The President’s administration shows that the topic of interest for both countries is support for the process of enlargement of the European Union. In this sense, there will be an exchange of views in preparation for the EU Summit – Western Balkans, December 6, from Tirana, Republic of Albania.
The President of Romania will also take part in a working meeting at the level of the leaders of the European People’s Party, during which topical issues of the European agenda will be discussed.
