Tsipras: Break the Silence – Support structures that support abused women

“Break the Silence” is the message sent Alexis Tsipras from the Women’s Advice Center of the municipality of Keratsini-Drapetsonas, which was visited on the morning of the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women.

“I visited the Center to encourage you, congratulate you and assure you that we will do our best to expand these structures,” the President of SYRIZA-PS emphasized.

“We have always had feminicides, but they were not as intense and subtle. And that is why it is very important to use this common awareness of the problem in two directions,” said Mr. Tsipras, emphasizing: “Break the silence, give women the courage to report cases of gender-based violence and, secondly, build structures. Consulting structures, hostels”. “Why are you complaining? Where are you going next?” he pointed out. “Mostly,” he continued, “to restore confidence, which is more difficult, in the administration of justice.”

Mr. Tsipras noted that “a big problem in our country is, on the one hand, the fragmentation of services, counseling, hospitality, prevention, and on the other hand, there is a question of trust in the system of administration of justice.”

The workers, as well as Mayor Keratsiniou-Drapetsonas, specifically noted the surge in cases, “because in the last year alone, 84% of the incidents they received were related to cases of domestic violence, as well as the bureaucratic problems they face.”

For his part, Alexis Tsipras emphasized that we still have a long way to go even to intervene to create a social safety net with public responsibility, whether centrally or by municipalities. In addition, according to him, “we also have a lot of work in the field and in the family. In other words, we must also address the causes of domestic violence.” He explained that it has to start with how we raise our children. “Those of us who have mostly boys, but not only. If it is not broken in our daily life, in our lives, at school, then it cannot be dealt with,” he said. – something that was hidden under the carpet in the families inside, in our society.
