Several PNL, PSD and USR parliamentarians have submitted a draft law to the Senate that, if passed, would allow pets access to public facilities and public transport.

The legislative initiative amends Law 205/2004 on animal protection and introduces three new articles:

  • the access of domestic animals, dogs and cats, regardless of size and breed, is allowed in central and local government institutions, as well as legal entities of private law, which in accordance with the law have received the status of a public utility or are authorized to provide public service, if they are accompanied by an adult.
  • access to shared vehicles with pets is allowed if they do not threaten the safety of passengers.
  • dogs are kept on a leash and dogs belonging to dangerous breeds must also wear a muzzle
  • cats are transported in special cages.

The Senate is the first chamber to be notified and the Chamber of Deputies is the decision-making forum in this case.
