Investment in Greece caused by the war in Ukraine

Its function in Hellas started for some time one of the leading software development companies in the world, EPAM Systemswhose activities in our country are covered by a very interesting story related to the war in Ukraine.

It all started with the fact that the financial director of the company in Switzerland, a Greek named Vassilis Papadimitriou, after the start of the war in Ukraine, contacted the Deputy Minister of Development Christ Demas, informing him that the company’s employees in Ukraine and Belarus, who worked remotely at the company’s headquarters, would leave the country and expressed an interest in living in Greece. The mobilization of the Deputy Minister was immediate, not just to become Ukrainians digital nomads in Greece, that is, to work from our country for a company, but also for something more.

The company did not have offices in Greece, so procedures began last summer to open a branch in Greece, so that Ukrainians who wanted to come here would be the first employees. The goal was not only achieved, but exceeded expectations.

Last week, Christos Dimas visited the company’s headquarters in the center of Athens, which employs 40 people, as the company now operates entirely in Greece. 15 are from Ukraine and are currently here with their families. Their safe relocation comes after a communication that started last spring between Mr. Dimas, CG. Migration policy Patroklos Georgiadis and company representatives from Switzerland. The Deputy Minister of Development and Investment presented to them in successive teleconferences the perspective of Greece, the new business environment that is being cultivated, tax incentives and the will of the Greek government, as a result of which he was able to attract concrete investments in the field of innovation and technology. The investment is expected to have a direct impact on employment, as the number of jobs is expected to reach 100 by the end of the year and could exceed 1,000 in five years.

The technology company is at the forefront of a global innovation network with approximately 65,000 employees in more than 50 countries. Now, the company’s next step is to find suitable real estate to house the tech giant and its employees in larger offices in Athens.
