AUR leader George Simion, who was charged with driving while his license was suspended, claims he was never notified that his driving license was suspended and denies he was involved in the fatal crash.

  • “Deputy George Simion, president of the AUR party, never received a notification about the suspension of his driving privileges.
  • In addition, Deputy George Simion never knew about the existence of a criminal case opened by the Buzau Municipal Police in connection with the intentional bodily injury of a person in a traffic accident in which he was allegedly involved.
  • Mr. Deputy George Simion reports that there was a minor traffic incident, a minor collision that was resolved amicably, with no injuries,” the AUR stated in a press release.

The AUR also claims that the “alleged victim” of the crash attributed to him did not require medical attention for days and “was not injured”:

  • “The crime for which the investigation was conducted does not exist, the legal decision that should have been made in the case is a qualification based on Article 16 letter a of the Criminal Procedure Code. Such a situation in no way entails the suspension of the right to drive of a participant in a minor road accident without victims.
  • Mr. Deputy George Simion states that the law does not provide for deprivation of the right to drive a vehicle in case of classification, if there was no injury recorded in the medico-legal act.
  • Therefore, any other discussion that unfolds in the public space on this topic is tendentious and is directed exclusively against the image of Mr. President of the Alliance for the Union of Romanians, MP George Nicolae Simion.”

We remind you that George Simion was picked up by masked men at three o’clock in the morning in Victory Square after an almost hour-long standoff with police officers who asked him to accompany him to the headquarters of the Road Brigade in the territory that he was driving, despite the fact that his license was suspended after a traffic accident he allegedly caused in April.

George Simion was in Piața Victoriei with a busload of party people who had come to Bucharest for the Sunday rally, and the gendarmes appeared on the grounds that there was noise.

At that time, the capital police reported that a criminal case had been opened against Simion for driving without a license, i.e. driving a vehicle on public roads with the right to drive revoked. In addition, the bus driver was fined 1,450 lei and disqualified for 30 days after he parked the bus in a restricted area on Piața Victoriei and refused to move the bus.
