If the draft law passed by the Chamber of Deputies on Tuesday is announced by President Klaus Iohannis, the salaries of local elected officials will be calculated and updated with reference to the minimum wage from 2021, not from 2019 as it is now.
PSD, PNL and UDMR parliamentarians, who proposed the changes and voted for them, claim that an injustice has been created by freezing the salaries of state employees in the local administration for the past four years.
In this sense, a deputy mayor in a commune of 3,000 inhabitants would receive 1,410 lei gross in addition to his salary. At the same time, the deputy mayor of Bucharest could receive, after the vote of the deputies, 4,230 lei gross in addition to his salary.
In the case of mayors, they will receive an additional 1,880 gross lei if the municipality has up to 3,000 inhabitants, and up to 4,700 gross lei in the case of the mayor of Bucharest.
It should be noted that employees of local administrations will also receive more money, because their salaries are determined according to the allowance of the vice-mayor or vice-president of the county council.
The draft law regulates oug 115/2022, according to which, starting from August 2022, a quarter of the difference between the basic salary provided for by the framework law No. 153/2017 for 2022 and for December 2021 is provided.
We will remind, on Tuesday, the deputies accepted the salary increase for local elected officials and civil servants in city halls by 68 votes “for”, 79 “against” and 4 “abstentions”.
The draft law provides for an increase in the amount of allowances for persons who hold positions elected from local self-government bodies, starting from November 1, 2022.
