The government is delaying the start of the mayoral elections of sector 5 after the candidates were not clarified at the political level. After the arrest of Cristian Popescu, Piedone PSD “faced off” with several candidates for the mayoral seat in sector 5, while the Liberals seem to be completely uninterested.

According to the latest information, PSD will support Rares Hopinch to run for mayor of sector 5. HotNews.ro’s social democratic sources claim that Hopinke is PSD’s general adviser to Bucharest City Hall and was related (from his wife’s side) to PSD President Marcel Colacu.

According to the same sources, Daniel Florea announced his resignation from the PSD after announcing his support for Hopinke. In fact, Florea suggested in a Facebook post explaining his resignation that he “does not agree with the PSD supporting a candidate without political activity in the PSD or perhaps a representative of another party.”

On a public level, Vlad Popescu, the son of Cristian Popescu Piedone (who is currently a Member of Parliament on the PSD list), has expressed his intention to run for office. In fact, his father published a message from prison asking the residents of Sector 5 to trust his son, Vlad Popescu Piedone.

The approach of the two PSD presidents worried Marcel Čolaka, who did not want to associate the party’s image with Cristian Popescu Piedone.

HotNews.ro was informed by the same sources Vlad Popescu Piedone will run for the position of mayor of sector 5 from the party of Dan Voiculescu, PPU-SL.

According to the CV, Vlad Popescu Piedone has been a member of the PPU-SL since February 2021, although he entered parliament as a PSD member. According to quoted sources, during the election campaign, Marcel Çolaku received the media support of the Intact trust for direct negotiations with Dan Voiculescu and the support of the PSD list of some people proposed by the media boss. They are Graciela Gavrilescu, Vlad Popescu, Stelutsa Catanichiu and Ana Loredana Predescu.

PNL is not interested in the Sector 5 City Hall

Four months after the mayoral seat of Sector 5 became vacant, the PNL does not have a single candidate proposal. PNL sources told HotNews.ro that so far no proposals for the mayoral candidacy of Sector 5 have been discussed at the leadership forum.

The UDR accuses the Government of refusing to organize the elections of the mayor’s office of sector 5

USR’s Sector 5 mayoral candidate Alexandrou Dimitriou announced on Monday that he has filed a criminal complaint against Prime Minister Nicolae Chouquet, PSD leader Marcel Cholaka, Interior Minister Lucian Bode, Capital Prefect Toni Grebla and AEP chairman Constantine Mititelu Buick. for refusing to organize elections to the mayor’s office of the 5th sector.

“Practically, the last date on which the election date could be set during these 90 days is October 9. At the moment, the election cannot be held on October 9, 2022, as Law 115/2015 requires that the Government Decree appointing the date of the by-election be passed at least 35 days before the vote. The last date when this GD could be adopted to hold elections on October 9, 2022 was September 2. Despite the fact that we repeatedly informed them about the obligation to organize elections, they refused to comply with the requirements of the law. Now they will have to endure the severity of the law,” writes Alexandru Dimitriou on his social media page.

The USR candidate points out that the executive has 90 days to organize the elections, starting from the moment the prefect’s institution notified the government of the vacancy of the mayor of Sector 5. According to Dimitriou, the latest date for the elections can be set to October 9.

We remind you that a month after Piedone’s imprisonment, the post of mayor of the 5th sector was vacant. On June 9, the prefect of the capital, Tony Greble, signed an order terminating the powers of the mayor of sector 5, Christian Popescu Piedone, who was finally sentenced on May 12 to 4 years in prison in the Collective Case.

According to the law, from the date of the prefect’s notification, the Government has 90 days to organize by-elections. According to Law 115/2015, the Government must make a decision 35 days before the elections.

According to Art. 10 para. 2 of Law No. 115 of 2015 for elections of local self-government bodies, in the case of partial local elections, the date of their holding is set by the Verkhovna Rada no later than 35 days before the voting.

Also, together with the election date, the Government by its decision establishes a calendar of actions during the election period, according to which it begins 15 days before the election date and ends the day before the election.
