AUR announced on Thursday the start of the presidential candidate election campaign. More precisely, any Romanian who collects 500 signatures of support and registers online on the party’s platform can become AUR’s presidential candidate, announced George Simion. The statement of the AUR leader was made in the context of the fact that he was accused of excessively publicizing his wedding in order to promote himself as a party candidate in the presidential elections.

“We are starting the campaign for the presidential elections, offering every Romanian the opportunity to run under the AUR logo in these elections. We will announce the method, order. People who have currently expressed their intention to register to participate in the internal elections, but open to any person who is not a party member, as well as members of other parties to run in the presidential election under the AUR logo.

We offer the opportunity to any Romanian who meets certain conditions, such as collecting at least 500 signatures, including online, through the platform we provide to those who declare their intention. So a minimum of popular support, a presidential election program, a resume and the necessary documents to submit a candidacy for the position of president,” said George Simion on Thursday in parliament.

According to the leader of the AUR, between September 1 and 25, 2022, any Romanian citizen aged 33 or older, whose right to be elected and vote has not been restricted by the courts, can register in the electoral race organized by the AUR.

“All the real polls we’ve done, all the public consultations we’ve done show that AUR is now very popular among Romanians, and the candidate will make it to the 2nd round of the election. This is an open race for any Romanian. We are opening the political arena to anyone within the party who wants it, and I want to make some suggestions and suggest Mr. Claudio Tarzio, Sorin Lavrik, Dan Tenase to register in this contest.
