Iliopoulos: Society does not deserve the decline we live in today

“Getting rid of the Mitsotakis regime is a democratic and patriotic duty, and therefore the elections are a social necessity,” emphasizes Nasos Iliopoulos, spokesman for SYRIZA-PS, in an interview with Macedonia tis Kyriaki.

“If anyone looks at the international press reports on Greece over the past month, it is easy to see that Mr. Mitsotakis is the biggest detractor of Greece in the last many years, this is a classic example of far-right collapse and panic, to see the Mitsotakis regime in its failures, conspiracy scenarios.

Asked if wiretapping is bringing the elections closer, he argues that Kyriakos Mitsotakis has two options: “Try to delay the elections, but at the same time, he must apologize every day to the Greek people, Europe and the international press for the fact that his government monitors politicians, journalists and citizens. On the other hand, he has the ability to call immediate elections. The next government of Tsipras will then take on the task of clarifying this history and protecting democratic institutions.”

Mr. Iliopoulos reiterates that “a simple proportional ballot box can create a progressive government” and refers to the presence of Alexis Tsipras at TIF, saying:

“TIF will present the main pillars of the SYRIZA-Progressive Alliance, which will answer the question of what political change means. Amid extreme inflation, the Mitsotakis government refuses to reduce the excise tax on fuel and VAT on basic foodstuffs.

Macron in France cannot nationalize the largest energy company to help households and businesses, and here Mr. Mitsotakis insists on the crime of privatizing the checkpoint. The priorities are changing the ND bankruptcy law, managing – by writing off a large part of it – the debt caused by the pandemic, strengthening public health and education, and another development model that will provide the worker with job security and dignity. What is certain is that Greek society does not deserve the decline that we are experiencing today, and for this reason, citizens will choose progressive and democratic political change.”
