Two visitors to the events on the occasion of the Open House of the federal government on Sunday, August 21, held a protest, naked topless during a joint photo with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz (Olaf Scholz).
In a series of photographs that captured what was happening, two girls approached Scholz for a joint photo. After the photographer invited to the event prepared to take a picture, the activists suddenly took off their clothes. On the chest of one of them was written the slogan “Gas embargo – now”.
At the same time, the chancellor reacted without emotion to what was happening – his reaction was described by the publication Focus only as “slightly surprised”. As soon as the girls were naked, they were taken away by the guards who were nearby.
Scholz does not refuse Russian gas
Earlier, the German chancellor called Russia an “unreliable supplier” of gas and pointed out that Gazprom was using far-fetched pretexts to cut supplies, in breach of the contract. Due to such pretexts, the company has not taken the repaired turbine to Germany’s Nord Stream 1 pipeline since mid-July – starting with allegedly unresolved issues with documents and ending with statements about the impossibility of transporting the turbine due to low water level. in European rivers. At the same time, Gazprom limited the supply of fuel through the pipeline to record low volumes.
Despite this, the German authorities have not reported a desire to terminate contracts with the Russian company, although they are looking for alternatives to gas from the Russian Federation and ways to solve heating problems in the country in winter. In early August, German gas storage facilities were 77% full, ahead of schedule, but the government’s target of 95% capacity by November seems “illusory”, said Klaus Müller, head of Bundesnetzagentur (BNetzA).
One way to keep enough gas in storage should be the EU’s emergency plan to reduce the union’s gas consumption by 15%, adopted in early August. But even he does not eliminate all possible risks in the event of an interruption in the supply of fuel to the Russian Federation.
Scholz ratings fall amid inflation
Simultaneously with Open Doors, the weekly Bild am Sonntag published the results of a survey of citizens on their attitudes towards the chancellor’s work. Nearly two-thirds of Germans – 62 percent – are dissatisfied with Scholz’s work and only 25 percent are satisfied with his results. The ruling coalition’s rating also dropped to a record low. The federal government’s work is now dissatisfied with 65% of those surveyed, and only 27% approve of it.
Based on these data, in the event of a direct election of the chancellor, Olaf Scholz would only occupy third place, with 18% of the votes. Green Economy Minister Robert Habeck would be in first place with 25 percent, and Christian Democratic Union president Friedrich Merz in second with 19 percent.
