As the first and only step towards clearing up the surveillance case, PASOK characterizes the petition of Nikos Androulakis to set up a parliamentary commission of inquiry. “The business has just begun,” they characteristically say from Hara. Trikoupi, who, after yesterday’s tumultuous events, is now clearly highlighting the issue of political responsibility in the government camp, speaking of “a scene reminiscent of other times.” It also puts the prime minister himself at the center – and not just the box – of the case, since, as already noted, the resigned Mr. Dimitriadis and Pan. Kontoleon has a direct link to Maximos Palace, the former as a close associate of Mr Mitsotakis and the latter as commander of EYP, an agency under the Prime Minister’s Office.
Harilaou Trikoupi declares that he will reach “to the end” through the investigative committee and the judiciary.
The commission of inquiry’s request, which the government, through Giannis Oikonomos, said it would accept, was largely an expected move for PASOK as Char. Trikoupi wants to stay on the “institutional path” while retaining the initiative of movements in opposition territory. At the same time, Mr. Androulakis has refrained at this stage from giving the case a pre-election coloring, as this could create a sense of instrumentalization of the case at the political level. However, two of his closest associates in the leadership core, Andreas Spyropoulos and Odysseus Konstantinopoulos, indirectly, but also directly raised the question of the “moral legitimation” of power. In Har. Trikoupi, in fact, believes that the aim was not to spy on the President of PASOK, but to blackmail him through the seizure of his mobile phone.
In any case, the fact is that the “green” front against Maximos, which has been unfolding for about two weeks now, with an unpredictable, now possible duration, is not only strengthening, but also significantly expanding. A fact that is also reflected in the failed attempt to contact George Herapetritis and Nikos Androulakis on Friday afternoon. From Char. Trikoupi stressed that the Minister of State, as well as the commander of the EMP, “lied to the Parliamentary Committee on Institutions and Transparency” a few days ago when they denied involvement in the surveillance cases. The same party sources also said that, institutionally, the Prime Minister should communicate with the President of PASOK, and not with Mr. Gerapetritis, as they noted, via SMS.
