As of Friday afternoon, Kumunduru has retired from summer raston. The creation by Parliament of a commission of inquiry to investigate the issue of surveillance was the subject of a meeting between Alexis Tsipras and his colleagues. A meeting of the Political Secretariat followed on Saturday. Obviously, the official opposition to this development, which Nikos Androulakis has also put forward, will be positive. In fact, the President of SYRIZA reportedly received relevant proposals from his colleagues a few days ago. In other words, investigate everything now that the “Greek Watergate”, as they call it, is at the top of the news. They see this as a great opportunity for opposition forces to rally against the government and at the same time isolate the prime minister. They talk about the Predator illegal software surveillance scandal that led to Megaros Maximos, and claim that Dimitriadis and Kontoleontos’ resignation is an admission of guilt by Kyriakos Mitsotakis.
Despite all this, Alexis Tsipras submitted another offer. He stressed to his interlocutors that it might be more expedient to set up a commission of inquiry after the elections. However, Komunduru clarifies that from the moment the commission of inquiry was created, they will do everything possible to bring the investigation to an end.
In Kumunduru, it is possible that two resignations and the burden borne by specific individuals (who, they note, are not immune) may even trigger political developments. That’s why they carefully consider their next steps.
Wanting to strike at the government as a whole, SYRIZA also tried to target – admittedly – successful ministers with whom it had not yet clashed. In other words, they accuse Kyriakos Pierrakakis, based on what has come to light, of lying to the Committee on Institutions and Transparency a week ago, where Panagiotis Kontoleon was also present. They report the same about Giorgos Herapetritis with the question: “The former head of the EMP has resigned. They are;”
It is a fact that the official opposition expects developments in the surveillance issue to have important political tails. First of all, “get PASOK out of the hands of the ND”, as they characteristically emphasize. They are waiting to see if Nikos Androulakis will continue on the front in the next period, fearing that his party will be identified with SYRIZA.
