The leader of the PNL of Iași, MP Alexandru Muraru, has argued that the history of Romanian communism should be introduced as a compulsory subject in high school, saying it would be “the truest and most profound condemnation of communism, its crimes and abuses”.
Alexandru Muraru said Saturday during a debate in Iași on new education laws in the presence of Education Minister Sorin Campeanu that the history of Romanian communism should become a compulsory subject for high school students.
“This discipline should be in the new Law on Education. Today, more than ever, in the context of the Russian invasion, the hybrid war that Russia is waging in NATO countries, in the context in which we need a strong narrative that will strengthen the Romania of tomorrow, the study of high school students in the history of communism, a discipline separate from what is happening on history lessons, is a compulsory subject. After 32 years after the collapse of communism, future generations must be educated in the spirit of democracy, values, freedom and fight against forms of falsification of history,” said the leader of the PNL of Iasi, MP Alexandru Muraru.
He believes that propaganda, distortion, manipulation and lies were the main foundations of the communist system.
According to Muraru, Romania should start a broad process of teaching those born after the communist period about the history of the totalitarian regime.
“This education will greatly contribute to the rejection of forms of authoritarianism and nostalgia transformed into toxic political projects. The history of Romanian Communism would be the truest and deepest condemnation of Communism, its crimes and abuses as a mandatory subject,” added the liberal Alexandru Muraru. (source: news.ro)
