about Veronica’s double life, a 1991 film by Polish director Krzysztof Kiesliowski, has been called a philosophical film. Even enigmatic and philosophical. It deals with the probability that in two places in this world (in this case, Poland and France), two people who are physically similar have roughly the same names (Veronica and Veronica) and have nearly the same fates. Cultivate the same passion, in this case – for music. Veronika is from Poland, Poland, which has just come out of communism (at one point we see a truck carrying a huge statue of Marx, which has just been removed from its plinth), has ambitions for a solo career, but just like a dream about to come true, an artist dies of a heart attack. Veronica from France, to the disappointment of her teacher, gives up possible fame on the stage in favor of a career as a teacher. Veronika from Poland crosses paths with Veronika from France at one point, just as the two stars meet, she is struck by the similarities between them, but her attempt to talk to them fails.
The same movie is also called a movie about love. One of the most beautiful in the history of the genre. Both main characters fall in love, the first with a certain Antek, the second with an artist (and puppeteer and writer) named Alexander Fabri. In the final part of the film, Alexander explains the secret to his girlfriend, announced immediately after the credits, when two mothers share with their little girls the secret of Christmas and the rebirth of nature with the arrival of spring. The mystery that Veronica feels, who feels that another such being is a part of her life. What symbolically connects two young women? Probably the piece of rope that Veronica breaks with excitement and concentration at the end of the aria and that Veronica receives in an anonymous envelope. This is just one of the symbols that Slawomir Idziak’s room insists on. I also remember a mirror, a magnifying glass, a window, as well as a ball that throws old plaster onto the ceiling.
About this film, Kieslowski also said that it will be a great feature film. And it really is. And thanks to the perfection of the script (Krzysztof Kiesliowski, Krzysztof Piesiewicz), which non-aggressively tells about the possible and ultimately impossible mystery of life, the one that makes us non-unique, and thanks to the image and editing (Slawomir Idziak, respectively Jacques Witta), and thanks to the music created by Zbigniew Preisner, and thanks to the arias, which have something divine and which are not only sung, but also performed by the Polish Veronika.
Veronica’s double life I think this is a great feature film due to the exceptional performance of actress Irene Jacob. Which I think is part of that category a unique actors about which the late theater actor George Banu wrote so beautifully more than once. The career of Irene Jacob, who also starred in another excellent film by Kieslowski- Three colors. red-it was determined by cooperation with a Polish director. The actress also starred in other films by other directors, but never achieved such success as in Kieslowski’s films. – Read the entire article and comment on Contributors.ro
