Filmed in 2016, premiered in Romania in the first month of next year. 6.9 points on the Richter scale, the film broadcast last week by TVR Cultural seemed to me to be a second-rate production in the ensemble of Nae Karanfil’s work.
And this despite 5 GOPO awards.
6.9 points on the Richter scale is obviously at a great distance from Asphalt tango the times Philanthropy, is clearly inferior even to the historical productions of the same director. This is perhaps comparable to I miss you everydaya 1987 film by George Vitanidis. 6.9 points on the Richter scale this is a kind of musical, not finished, it only half meets the requirements of the genre, the singing and dancing interludes are not only few, but also close to the end, probably because the audience, who was not completely clear until then, will understand that everything is fine , when it ends well. This life is beautiful and worth living.
6.9 points on the Richter scale this is, at best, what it would be called good son. Which is held primarily thanks to the distribution, here the merits of Andrea Vulpe should be noted. Casting directors. Not only a very good theater director (it’s a shame he doesn’t stage too much), but also a great teacher at UNATC. The same UNATC that all kinds of theater critics try to present to us as the Sodom and Gomorrah of our days and higher education in Romania. And this is in the name of a sinister story with politically correct thinking.
Tony, played brilliantly by Laurentiu Benescu, is a young actor starring in an upcoming musical show inspired by the story of Orpheus and Eurydice. The director of the show is Gelu Kolseg. It is performed by Gelu Kolseag himself. The film tries – it could not be otherwise – and a panorama of the theater world. A world with files, acquaintances, relationships, with strange directors and human frailties (ahem!), somehow disguised as actresses (Lucian Ifrim), with actors who gossip about anyone (Adrian Vancicque, Constantin Florescu), with choreographers on the verge of despair (Silviu Mircescu), with too absent-minded assistant directors (Demetr Andras), with a ballet company ready to make any sacrifices, and with applicants for acting skills in unconditional enthusiasm Prof.
Toni is married to a decorator who has been forced out of work by the economic crisis, hence her recurring, perhaps too frequent, bouts of hysteria and jealousy, played by Maria Obretne. Tony also has his obsession. He fears the devastating effects of an upcoming earthquake, and his fears are exacerbated by moving into an apartment building with a dot. An opportunity for the director-screenwriter to show us how things are going with seismology specialists-teachers-doctors (Mihai Niculescu) and with businessmen who know how to take advantage of corruption at the level of city halls (Alexandru Papadopol). .
But all these troubles are not enough for Tony. In his life appears the one who is recommended to be a father (dad) and to whom he owes his real name. Antonov. An opportunity for a wonderful new role signed by Theodore Korban. The man is well-informed, he is a connoisseur of the art of lying, he has an undeniable charm, preserved despite his age, and he brings chaos everywhere. He promotes the hysteria of Tony and his overly jealous wife, he has romantic affairs with strictly defined contract terms, he plays with Tony as he pleases, he pretends to be terminally ill. But above all, I like it.
In the end, though, he likes the movie too. It is good to ventilate only during vacation and holiday season. That doesn’t mean, however, that TVR and its disastrous management (led by CEO Dan Christian Turturica and remaining executive producer Carla Tompea) would thus wash away their latest disgrace. This stuttering is related to the live broadcast of the New Year’s concert in Vienna. Fluctuations that further reduced trust in the institution, however weak.
