The Breath of Life social initiative is implemented by the Hellenic Pulmonary Society with the support of Johnson & Johnson for 2in year, focusing on information and awareness about lung health, the value of screening, and the intensity of smoking cessation efforts. Screening has proven to be the only useful tool for early diagnosis of lung cancer and the Hellenic Lung Society is calling on citizens to take a “Breath of Life”.
The goal of the initiative is to develop and strengthen a culture of lung disease prevention so that Greece becomes the country with the lowest number of deaths from lung cancer in Europe. OUR strengthening constructive dialogue with institutions and social agencies about the importance of creating and operating a prevention system, it undoubtedly acts as a shield in the fight against lung cancer.
Proving that the goal of the Hellenic Lung Society, has now evolved into a social alliance of institutions, agencies as well as the state that work together to create a lung cancer free society. In this context, this year the Charter of the public initiative “Breath of Life” was created, which ethical commitment document, with the main goal of mass information about the program of special preventive control, informing citizens about it early detection of lung cancer and the benefits of quitting smoking.

Deputy Minister of Health, Mina Gaga, Municipality of Athens, Hellenic Society of Thoracic, Cardiovascular Surgeons, Hellenic Society of General/Family Medicine (ELEGEIA), Hellenic Lung Cancer Society (ELEKAP), Hellenic Cancer Federation (ELLOK), Association of Volunteer Friends cancer patients of the Athens Doctors (KEFI) and FairLife – care and prevention of lung cancer, important contributors who further contribute to the work of the initiative.
