​In the last day, 11,696 new cases of COVID-19 were registered in Romania, which is 6,494 more than the previous day. Also, 38 patients with COVID-19 died in the last day, one of the victims was a child aged 0-9 years. The Ministry of Health has not yet provided additional information about this child.

The largest number of cases – 1,697 – is in Bucharest, where the infection rate has risen to 9.56 ppm.

The next places are Cluj – 612 new cases and an infection rate of 8.73 per thousand, Ilfov – 258 new cases and an infection rate of 6.77 per thousand and Constanta – 490 new cases and an infection rate of 6.33.

This high daily number of COVID-19 cases in recent months was recorded only last week, when 12,353 cases were registered on July 26.

A day ago, the Minister of Health, Alexandrou Rafila, said that the increase in the number of cases had been curbed.

2,493 new cases in 24 hours were from reinfected patients who tested positive more than 90 days after initial infection.

In contrast to newly confirmed cases, 484 people tested positive again after retesting patients who had already tested positive.

More than 4,000 patients with COVID-19 have been hospitalized

4,032 people with a diagnosis of COVID-19 were hospitalized, which is 126 less than the previous day.

277 people were hospitalized in the intensive care unit, which is 14 more than the previous day. Of the 277 patients admitted to the HTI, 241 are unvaccinated.

Out of the total number of hospitalized patients, 584 are minors, 578 in the wards, which is 55 less than the previous day, and 6 in intensive care, 1 more than the previous day.

38 dead, including a child

From the beginning of the pandemic to today, 66,049 people with a diagnosis of SARS-CoV-2 infection have died.

In the interval from 01.08.2022 (10:00) to 02.08.2022 (10:00), the National Institute of Health and Welfare reported 38 deaths (20 men and 18 women), there were no deaths before the control interval.

Among the 38 deceased, 1 – in the age category 0-9 years, 2 – in the age category 40-49 years, 3 – in the age category 50-59 years, 1 – in the age category 60-69 years, 13 – in the age category. Age category 70-79 years and 18 in the age category over 80 years.

37 deceased had concomitant diseases, 10 were vaccinated.

How many Romanians were checked?

Over the last day, 6,162 RT-PCR tests were performed (3,882 based on case definition and medical protocol and 2,280 on request) and 29,684 express antigen tests.

From the beginning of the pandemic to this date, 13,321,718 RT-PCR tests and 10,783,479 rapid antigen tests have been processed at the national level.
