Jennifer Allen, Braugher’s agent, confirmed his death to Variety, writes News.ro.

Braugher was best known for his role as Captain Raymond Holt in the crime comedy series Brooklyn 9-9 from 2013 to 2021.

His character’s stoic and no-nonsense personality, yet with a deep sense of humanity, made him an instant favorite on the show, especially when paired with Andy Samberg’s detective Jake Peralta.

He won an Emmy for his portrayal of Detective Frank Pembleton on NBC’s Homicide: Life on the Street in 1998, his final year on the show.

Braugher’s performance made him one of the breakout stars of the drama, which was produced by Barry Levinson, Tom Fontana and David Simon, the former Baltimore Sun reporter who wrote the 1991 non-fiction book The Murders: A Year on the Streets of Murder.

Brager also won an Emmy Award for Miniseries or Movie for his role as the master criminal in the 2006 FX series Thief.

He played Deputy Kojak in the TV movie Kojak, then moved on to Homicide: Life on the Street.

He also played a detective in “Huck” from 2002 to 2004, then moved on to work as a psychiatrist in “House, MD”. For his role in Men of a Certain Age, Brager was nominated for two Emmy Awards for his supporting role.

He continued to appear in feature films as his television career developed, with roles in City of Angels, Frequency, Poseidon, Primal Fear, Duets, The Mist, Fantastic Four: The Rise of Silver surfer”, “Salt” and “Gambler”.

He told Variety that his family is more important than his pursuit of the leading role. “It’s been an interesting career, but I think it could have been more,” he says.

“I think it could span multiple disciplines: directing, producing, all these different things. But it would be at the cost of my own life.”

He was married to Amy Brabson, who also starred in Homicide: Life on the Street, and has three children.
