OUR David Lynch spoke in the best words about his film Quentin TarantinoOnce Upon a Time in Hollywood 2019
In the latest issue of Cahiers du Cinema magazine, the American director stressed how good Tarantino’s work is as a “revenge film”.
Tarantino’s Once Upon a Time in Hollywood shows how events could turn out very differently in real life. This is a good and well-made film about revenge, ”he said.
Despite his insistence on not watching so many new films, Lynch seems to be a Tarantino fan.
In the same interview, Lynch, who directed the 1984 film adaptation of Frank Herbert’s Dune, shared his thoughts on Denis Villeneuve’s modern film version.
The topic of Dune remains a sore point in the director’s career to the point where he can’t watch the new 2021 film: “I’ll never see it and don’t even want you to talk to me about it,” Lynch said.
In 1981, producer Dino De Laurentiis hired Lynch to direct Dune, but production was hampered from the start as technical and health issues arose during filming in Mexico. In addition, the producer had a falling out with Lynch over his decision to keep the film from looking like a Star Wars copycat.
The problems extended into post-production when De Laurentiis and Universal Studios cut David Lynch’s five-hour cut to two hours for the theatrical release.
“Looking back, I don’t think it was anyone else’s fault but me. I probably shouldn’t have made this film, but I saw so much potential in things that I liked and it was a structure to realize them, ”said the director.
