Early reviews were positive and in fact a large number of journalists wrote that they were once again impressed by Cameron’s boundless imagination and impeccable visuals. In the three hour and 10 minute film, Jake Sully (Sam Worthington) and Neytiri (Zoe Saldana) are now parents who must protect their family from a new threat looming over Pandora. The second film starred Sigourney Weaver, Stephen Lang and Kate Winslet.
“The central theme of the story is family, families trying to stay together, and how far we can all go to protect ourselves and the place where we live. The script is based to some extent on James Cameron’s family, but also on how vulnerable a person is when they have children,” Sigourney Weaver said in an earlier interview with the Variety website.
In the long term, Cameron recently told Empire magazine, “I don’t want anyone complaining about the three hours they sit on the couch at home and watch eight hours of TV.”
