The famous monumental inscription, consisting of capital letters of the name of the Hollywood district in Los Angeles, will benefit from an update of the facade, according to France Presse, as cited by Agerpres.
The famous sign, built in 1923 overlooking the world’s film capital, will receive an “aesthetic treatment” for its centenary next year.
Work will begin Monday and is estimated to take about eight weeks, according to the Hollywood Sign Trust, the organization responsible for preserving the sign.
After cleaning with a jet of water under pressure, the 14-meter-high letters will be repainted. Approximately 1,500 liters of primer and white paint will be needed.
“This sign is a source of pride for Los Angeles, and we’re eager for fans around the world to see this reconstruction for this special centennial,” said Jeff Zarrinam, president of the Hollywood Sign Trust.
