If any director perfectly captured the lightheartedness of the 80s and also defined the teen movie genre, then he was rightfully the best. John Hughes. From “Breakfast Club” before “Ferris Bueller’s Day Off” and from “Cute in Pink” before “Weird Science” the director’s films carved a niche in pop culture that many have tried to copy ever since.

Of course, there would be nothing in John Hughes films without their music. Who doesn’t “listen” to this? “Not You (Forget About Me)” from simple minds when viewing a photo of a company from the Breakfast Club or their Psychedelic furs and the title track from “Cute in Pink” every time he sees Molly Ringwald in pink?

So, in order to recreate the sound of John Hughes films, the music from the director’s filmography is now collected in the first official collection of music from his films.

So the box set “Life Moves Quite Fast: The John Hughes Mixtapes” will contain over 70 tracks (on 4 CDs and 1 cassette or 6 LPs, depending on your preferred format) from Hughes’ films from 1983 to 1989 when the director retired and will be released Demon/Edsel in 11th of November.

New collection edited Tarquinius Gotts who also served as music editor and co-writer for John Hughes.

Gotts recalls his days with Hughes: “When we were working on the soundtracks for these films, the best way to send music to the world was on FedEx cassettes. We sent John cassettes of new music, demos, just-finished mixes (and he in turn sent us VHS videos of scenes that needed music).”

Are you ready to sing again “Did You (Don’t Forget About Me)”?
