“I am devastated. The love of my life and the best man ever born is gone. I am heartbroken,” his widow Dee Dee Sorvino wrote on her Facebook page.

Born in April 1939 in New York, Sorvino was best known for his role as Paul Cicero in Martin Scorsese’s 1990 film Goodfellas, starring Robert De Niro, Joe Pesci and Ray Liotta.

The following year, he starred in the TV series “New York, Police CID”, in the role of a police officer.

In 1995, he played Henry Kissinger in Oliver Stone’s film Nixon.

“My father, the great Paul Sorvino, has passed away,” tweeted his daughter Mira Sorvino, who won an Oscar in 1996 for Woody Allen’s Aphrodite.

“My heart is broken, a life full of love, joy and wisdom with him has come to an end,” she lamented.

Paul Sorvino had many supporting roles in movies and TV series, but he was a versatile artist with a gift for sculpture and opera.

“Most people think that I’m either a gangster or a policeman or something like that, but actually I’m a sculptor, an artist, a writer (…), but I seem to have a talent for playing such roles,” he said in an interview Orlando Weekly in 2014.
