
Belgium will raise its minimum wage to €2,029.88 a month on Sunday, becoming the fifth country among the 22 EU countries to have a minimum wage above €2,000 a month, according to Eurostat. [cinci nu au salariu minim – n.trad.]Euractiv reports.
The €35.70 increase will follow a €37.5 increase in 2026, meaning it will then overtake Germany, where the minimum wage is €2,065.58 a month. However, Germany has also planned to raise the minimum wage in January 2025.
After Luxembourg (€2,570.93 per month), Ireland (€2,146.30), the Netherlands (€2,070.12) and Germany (€2,054.00), Belgium will return to fifth place in the ranking of minimum monthly wages in the EU.
Next in the ranking is France, where after an increase from January 1, 2024, the minimum wage reached 1,766.92 euros.
Of the 22 EU member states included in the rating by Eurostat, nine have a minimum monthly salary of more than 1,000 euros, while in four countries – Bulgaria, Romania and Hungary – it is lower than 700 euros per month.
The French-speaking Socialist Party (PS/S&D) in Belgium wants to further increase the minimum wage to 2,800 euros, according to an election manifesto released last month, Rador Radio Romania cites.
