Protesters are disrupting traffic with Germany by expressing their outrage at EU agricultural regulations. Although Brussels has taken steps to relax its rules, European farmers have not given up on their demonstrations.

A Polish police spokesman said farmers in Poland blocked two German border crossings in protest on Monday.

Farmers parked their tractors on the A2 motorway, blocking traffic in both directions at the intersections of Swiecko and Gubinek, both western Polish cities. The demonstration began on Sunday.

Marcin Maludy, police spokesman in Gorzow Wielkopolski, said: “Traffic in Swiecko and Gubinek is blocked, you cannot travel in any direction,” and the protest “will continue until Wednesday evening.”

Why are Polish farmers demonstrating?

Polish farmers protested against agricultural imports from outside the European Union and the bloc’is environmental bureaucracy.

Protesters have been blocking checkpoints with Ukraine, complaining that imports from the war-torn neighboring country cut into their profits. They have now expanded the protest to Poland’western border.

Two weeks ago, tens of thousands of farmers held mass protests in Warsaw, Poland’capital of the EU, by closing the border with Ukraine and by abolishing the EU green deal.

Polish farmers also blocked the A2 motorway into Germany last month, outraged by EU regulations.

EU duties for imports from Ukraine from Russia’The large-scale invasion, the requirement to leave a certain amount of agricultural land fallow and the 2020 European Green Deal have angered farmers not only in Poland but across Europe.
