Germany: Train drivers’ union GDL announces next railway strike
March 10, 2024
Train drivers’ union GDL on Sunday night called the latest strike in its ongoing dispute over pay and hours with Deutsche Bahn.
The union said in a statement that passenger services will be affected from 2am on Tuesday until the same time on Wednesday.
Freight train drivers will begin their strike at 6pm on Monday, also downing tools for a 24-hour period, the GDL said.
The most recent strikes in this dispute occurred at the end of last week and coincided with industrial action that affected air travel in Germany.
Germany’s central bank has warned that the actions are likely to affect productivity.
The GDL warned last week that it would begin a so-called “strike wave” and would stop giving advance notice of future strikes, although Sunday’s latest strike was announced with little more than a day’s notice.
