The Northern Station is far behind the stations in civilized Europe, and nowhere was this more visible than at night, on the platforms, where there was very little light. In a few days, things improved significantly, and five of the eight platforms had new, powerful neon signs. Installation of new lamps continues throughout March.

A lot needs to be done at the North Station to make it a worthy place. During this period, a very small but much-needed step was taken by installing new lighting on the platforms.

At five of the eight platforms, the old lamps were replaced with new LED lamps, and by the end of March, almost 400 new lamps will be installed on all eight platforms, so that there is light on all 14 lines.

One of the amazing things about North Station is how dimly lit the train platforms are at night. There were also times when there was more light, and in this aspect the difference with the stations in Central Europe is huge.

Train stations in small Romanian towns are much better lit than the North Station, a place where in the evening, at night or in the morning, you can barely see the number of the car you need to board, especially since most IR trains have A4 papers stuck in the window, illuminated there are no dashboards on the cars.

We asked CFR Infrastructure about the progress of this project:

“At the Bucharest Nord station, we have a program to reduce electricity consumption, the optimal solution is to replace the old lighting devices of the platform with LED lamps.

By this date, the old lamps have been replaced with new LED lamps on 5 platforms, and by the end of March we will replace the lighting system on all 8 platforms of the Bucharest Nord station.

By installing 385 LED lamps, we estimate a reduction in electricity consumption”
