A new property ad posted on a property rental group in Cluj-Napoca has been widely mocked by social media users after the agent offered to rent a basement space “ideal for storing car tires” and “3 security levels” for 750 lei per month.

The authorities want to regulate the real estate agent profession more strictly
The draft law on better regulation of real estate brokerage was submitted to the parliament back in December 2022 and is currently in the legislative circle after receiving the necessary opinions from the specialized committees of the Chamber of Deputies and the adoption and tacit approval of the Senate last May.
The draft Law on the Organization of Real Estate Brokerage Activities (PL-x No. 310/2023) was submitted to the Chamber of Deputies last February, which is the chamber that makes decisions on this regulation. Among other things, it stipulates that access to the profession of real estate agent must follow a three-step procedure, reports E-Juridic.ro:
- (i) conducting an initial course for the purpose of obtaining the qualification of a real estate agent – organized by accredited schools, in accordance with current legal provisions, under the supervision of the National Authority for Qualifications, a state institution with a legal entity, in accordance with the agreement of the Ministry of Education, in accordance with the current legislation and the Ministry of labor and social protection of the population, with provision by accredited educational institutions of the necessary conditions for practical training and issuance by accredited educational institutions on the basis of an exam, a diploma certifying the completion of the course.
- (ii) support and promotion of the final examination of the initial course for the purpose of obtaining the quality of a real estate agent – organized by examination boards created to report to the accredited schools that organized the course.
- (iii) issuance of authorization and registration in RENII by the Authority.
The initial professional training must consist of an initial course for acquiring the quality of a real estate agent, for which a duration of at least 180 hours is proposed, of which at least 60 hours of theoretical training and at least 120 hours of practical training.
The project also requires full insight from applicants.
