5-6 years ago, when Samsung talked a lot about folding phones, the first rumors appeared that we would see folding versions of the iPhone or iPad in stores. Apple has decided not to release devices in the “sophisticated” category yet, but now there are new rumors about what is being tested.

In the folding phone market, Samsung is the clear leader with the Z Fold and Z Flip 5 models, which account for more than 60% of the total. Other players are also present in the market such as Motorola, Huawei, OnePlus, OPPO and Google.

There is plenty of room for growth in the market, which, although it has grown significantly, remains niche because phones cost more than €1,000. It is good that the models have grown up, are durable, have good batteries and are becoming more and more attractive.

The publication Information writes that Apple is working on at least two iPhone prototypes that can be folded horizontally, like the Galaxy Z Flip. Sources say possible foldable versions of the iPad are also being tested.

Apple hasn’t confirmed anything, and in any case, it’s known for keeping future products under wraps. Apple is also known for abandoning projects it has worked on for years if Tim Cook and his entourage feel the product isn’t good enough for the quality standards Apple users are used to.

Sources say Apple wants the foldable iPhone to have an 8-inch screen when unfolded, which won’t be easy since we’re talking about a phone that’s going to be pretty big and heavy.

Apple employees should make sure that the possible folding model should be very resistant to dust and drops, and the “bend”, “bend” in the middle should be visible as little as possible.

If there is a foldable iPhone, it will appear on the market no earlier than in 2026 or 2027.
