The government on Thursday approved the addition of budget credits needed by Romania’s Intelligence Service (SRI) to fully pay military pensions in January this year, a week after a similar decision was made following a request from the Ministry of Interior (MAI).
In the Memorandum approved at the Cabinet meeting on Thursday, the State Security Service noted that in December of last year, it submitted proposals to the Ministry of Finance regarding the limits of budgetary credits and commitments required for January 2024.
- Budget credit is an amount approved by the budget, which represents the maximum limit up to which payments can be made during the budget year for legal obligations entered into during the budget year and/or from previous years.
- The liability credit is the maximum limit within which legal liabilities can be entered into during the budget year.
In December, SRI requested loans of more than 3.41 billion lei and budget loans of more than 285.9 million lei needed for January 2024, but a lower limit of committed loans was approved.
At the meeting on December 28, the government approved a budget credit limit of more than 285.9 million lei, but a smaller amount – 3.41 billion lei – was approved for liability credits.
The DSR has now requested another 800,000 lei for the payment of military pensions in January 2024
As a result, SRI came back with a new request, in which it emphasized that, regarding the January 2024 commitment credits, the amount of 582,000 lei is absolutely necessary to enter into legal commitments for the purpose of purchasing specific machinery. to fulfill the tasks of the Research Institute, stipulated by the current legal acts or decisions of the Supreme Council of National Defense.
In addition, the DSR requested to supplement the limit of budget credits by another 800,000 lei for the full payment of military pensions in January 2024.
The DSI requests were approved by the Government on Thursday.
And MAI received more money to pay military pensions for January 2024
The Chola government also approved a similar request from MAI last week.
The Interior Ministry, led by liberal Katalin Preda, understands that the payment of state military pensions in January 2024 exceeds 633.8 million lei, the amount estimated and approved by the government at the end of December last year.
In this regard, the MAI requested an addition of 27 million lei to the limit of budget credits and liability credits, approved for January 2024.
The MAI justified the claim by saying that the original assessment was based on calculations submitted to the Ministry of Finance on December 18, while the actual claim was only forwarded to the MAI’s branch Pension House on December 29. In addition, MAI also reported an increase of 234 persons in the number of beneficiaries of this right, which occurred in January 2024.
