We spend an average of more than six hours a day online. Depending on the speed of your internet connection, this can be a productive use of time or an annoyance.
And it seems that the country you live in can be a major factor in determining whether you will use the Internet.
Using data from Google’s site speed test service, BusinessComparison analyzed the average loading speed of some web pages on both desktop and mobile devices.
The tests were conducted for each European country separately, noting the dominance of the Nordic countries in the ranking, reports Euronews, as quoted by Rador Radio Romania.
- Sweden has the best speed, with the average web page loading in 3.74 seconds. In second place is Finland (3.84), which is also the first country in the world to legislate access to the Internet as a human right in 2010.
- Denmark and Latvia follow, both by about 4 seconds.
- Lithuania is in fifth place (4.14), followed by Switzerland (4.23).
- In terms of speed on mobile devices, Sweden is again in first place with an average of 7.48 seconds.
- At the bottom of the ranking we find Turkey (10.22), whose position is due to the 30-year-old copper cables that make up its network, the report says.
- Bulgaria (9.38), Romania (8.59), Cyprus (7.18) and Poland (6.09) close the rating.
The same countries, in the same order, also have the lowest mobile download speeds, with Turkey setting a negative record of 13.19 seconds, according to Euronews.
NR The title and content of the article have been updated to emphasize that the test was about web page loading, not “Internet speed”.
