According to data from the National Institute of Statistics (INS), Romania has quite high prices for arable land. Thus, if we look at the average price, which is EUR 8051/ha in our country, we see that it is lower in other countries.

In Bulgaria – 7,303 euros, in France – 6,130 euros, in Estonia – 5,730 euros, in Hungary – 5,240 euros, in Lithuania – 5,021 euros, in Slovakia – 4,790 euros, in Latvia – 4,420 euros, in Croatia – 3,700 euros.

It should be noted that in the case of France, it is noted that there is a difference in the definition of arable land.

In Romania, arable land is land that is regularly cultivated (plowed or cultivated), usually within a crop rotation system.

According to data available for 19 EU member states in 2022, arable land prices ranged from a minimum of €3,700 on average in Croatia to a maximum of €233,230 on average in Malta.

As for the average price of permanent pasture in EU Member States, in 2022 it ranged from a minimum of €1,887/ha in Bulgaria to a maximum of €46,305 in Luxembourg, while in Romania the average price was €5,671/ha.

In which region of Romania are the prices for arable land lower?

According to the methodology agreed at the European level, the average price of a hectare of arable land in Romania in 2022 was 39,704 lei/ha.

The lowest average price was recorded in the Northeast region, 34,743 lei/ha, while the highest value was recorded in the Bucharest-Ilfov region, respectively 59,263 lei/ha.

In 2022, compared to the previous year, Romania saw an increase in the average price of arable land by approximately 6.1%, the highest increase was observed in the North-West region of Romania (+23.5%).

The average price of permanent pasture in 2022 recorded an increase of approximately 6% compared to the previous year across the country, with the largest increase in the North East region (+14.9%).
