Foxconn, the world’s largest electronics maker, and Nvidia, a $1 trillion company, have announced an expanded collaboration to create “AI factories,” a new class of data centers that could accelerate the development of self-driving cars as well as industrial robots.
So-called “artificial intelligence factories” will be built on Nvidia’s GPU infrastructure, which will process, refine and transform vast amounts of data into useful AI models.
“A new type of production has emerged – the production of intelligence. These data centers that produce this are artificial intelligence factories,” says Jensen Huang, CEO of Nvidia.
These “artificial intelligence factories” will constantly receive data from autonomous cars in the field, and in the data centers the software will be improved and the entire fleet can be updated quickly.
Foxconn is mainly known for assembling Apple phones in its factories, but in recent years the giant has also entered several segments of the automotive industry, looking to diversify its business.
Nvidia, as it has invested heavily in super processors for the field of artificial intelligence, has reached a market capitalization of more than 1,000 billion dollars, the largest figure in the history of the company.
The partnership between Foxconn and Nvidia in these “artificial intelligence factories” applies not only to autonomous electric vehicles, but also to various types of industrial robots and industrial equipment.
